Artist Antonio Labella (Murcia, 1979) holds a degree in Art History from the University of Málaga and a Master's degree in Research in Art and Creation from the Complutense University of Madrid. In 2019, he earned his PhD in Fine Arts with the dissertation Global Contemporaneity in Art Biennials (2007–2019), examining the international biennial network and the conceptual and formal interests of artists and curators.
His practice combines artistic creation with academic research, focusing on hyperconnected society, identity, memory, and the relationship between human beings and their physical and virtual environments. He has participated in research projects including DATA ART RESEARCH, Big Data: Organizational Aspects (Open Data) and the Development of New Creative Capacities, and ATLAS/AV, which explores the audiovisualization of art history between museums and academia.
Labella has presented papers at international conferences, is a member of the Spanish Association of Digital Humanities, and has published research in academic journals such as Artnodes. He is currently conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Málaga, investigating human geographies in hyperconnected society through the metaphor of ephemeral, foam-like structures.
Over nearly two decades, his exhibitions and projects have explored the intersection of traditional artistic techniques and digital technologies, treating artistic practice as a process of research and creation that extends beyond aesthetics to engage with contemporary conceptual questions.
