A graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, a diploma in the studio of prof. Wojciech Zubala. He also studied in the studio of prof. Stanisław Baj and former prof. Wojciech Cieśniewski.

Jerzy Baranowski specializes in oil and acrylic painting. He attaches great importance to the workshop including drawing. He deals with both abstraction and figuration. Besides geometrical abstraction, expressed in a minimalist manner – the closest to him is magical realism, which can be seen especially in the artist’s earlier works.

Since Jerzy Baranowski entered the artistic path and began searching for his own language of expression, he has carried out numerous trials and experiments with painting materials. He combined different substances and textures, tested various paint densities and tools —sometimes completely at random. At a certain point, Baranowski realized that some of these explorations had become a distinct stage in his creative process, a direction worth pursuing further.

Jerzy Baranowski sought a simple yet effective way to create a sense of spatiality in painting through the minimal use of means. Geometric spatial composition became the first step on this journey, aiming to express the complexity of human nature through simplified forms. The raw, simple, minimalist form —intertwined with the complexities of the world— became a challenge he found worth pursuing.
